JOSHUA TREE

EAT
Pappy & Harriet’s: Lunch/Dinner. Try and make a reservation as far in advance if you can, especially if you’re trying to go on a weekend. There’s always a wait.
La Copine: Lunch/Dinner. Though depending on the season or their mood, sometimes they flip their hours and operate on a Breakfast/Lunch schedule.
Natural Sister’s Cafe: Breakfast/Lunch/Smoothies.
⁃  Pie For The People: Pizza

HIKE
*All within Joshua Tree National Park. Please be respectful of the trails, and have humility in the face of the desert’s oppressive power. Pack more water than you think you need.
Ryan Mountain: Best at sunrise. HARD.
Wonderland Ranch/Wall Street Mill: EASY, but long.
Arch Rock: EASY and picturesque.
Pine City: Take the detour to see the Desert Queen Mine before you start along the trail. EASY, but long.
Barker Dam: EASY.
Lost Horse Mine: HARD.

ACTIVITIES
High Desert Test Sites: Hidden art installations in the middle of the desert. Also known as My Favorite Thing.
About & Download Map: http://www.highdeserttestsites.com/page/our-sites
Pappy & Harriets: Restaurant/live music venue. Weekends feature both an early and a late show.
Sky Village Swap Meet: Saturday Flea Market
Integratron: A weird perfectly-acoustic domed building some guy made to communicate with aliens. Or something like that. You have to make an appointment, so I haven’t been. Meditative types tend to like it, though.
- Hiking: Duh.
- Pioneertown Mountain Preserve: Hiking outside of the national park, and you can bring a dog on it! The full mountain hike is the hardest thing I’ve done in the area. Be forewarned.
-The Palms: A dive bar TRULY in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes they have local artists/musicians and shows. I believe it’s called Palm Restaurant on Google Maps.

STAY
- For a Party: Pioneertown Motel
- For Convenience: Mojave Sands Motel
- For Quiet: Rent an Airbnb in the Pioneertown or Landers areas.
- For Kitsch: Hicksville Trailer Palace (also good for large groups if you plan far enough ahead)
